Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon Review

Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of OseonBy: L. Neil Smith                                           Published: September 12, 1983                         By: Del Rey                                                          Length: 181 pages                                               Series: Book 2 in The Lando Calrissian Adventures                                                    My Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lando Calrissian and his droid sidekick Vuffi Raa are trying to be legit business men. Purchasing, hauling and selling merchandise. But it is not easy. Lando is just barley breaking even if not losing money. So when an invitation to join a group of very rich gamblers on the Oseon System in a game of Sabacc, Lando can’t refuse. On his way to the system two attempts are made on his life. But still Lando decides to carry on. After killing a man in self defense Lando is arrested for possession of an illegal firearm. He will be sentenced to death unless he can do a favor for the local government (Sound familiar?) All of this takes place during the Flamewind, a celestial phenomenon that wrecks havoc on starships making navigational almost impossible.

My Thoughts:

If you read my review on Lando Calrissian and the Mindharp of Sharu you would know I was very disappointed and not looking forward to reading the second novel in the series. I was a bit surprised. This was a vast improvement over the first. I found my self enjoying this one a lot. This is the Lando I know and love. A scoundrel and gambler who gets by one his wits. I still wish there were more alien species. I can only remember one that had a significant part in the story it seems like everyone else was human. We Also have a reoccurring villain who seeks vengeance on Lando. I’m in for the rest of the ride and am curious to see how the story concludes in the third book.
