Star Wars vol. 1, Skywalker Strikes

Author: Jason Aaron

Artist: John Cassaday

Published: October 2015/ Marvel Comics

Length: 160 pages

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Skywalker Strikes, is the first story arc in the new Star Wars series by Marvel Comics since Disney bought Lucasfilm. It includes Star Wars issues 1 thru 5. This story takes place right after the Battle of Yavin. Luke, Leia and Han Solo pose as smugglers working for Jabba the Hutt to gain access to a weapons factory on the moon Cymoon 1. The plan is simple, blow up the factory. But unbeknownst to the rebels the factory isn’t automated. Luke discovers live slaves and decides to rescue them. Even worst reinforcements arrive in the form of Darth Vader.

My Thoughts:

We are all familiar with the stories told in the saga films. But Star Wars fans live for these stories that take place before, after and in between the movies that we love. Any little bit of information and insight into these characters is what we live for. There can never be enough. That being said, it’s great seeing what happened right after A New Hope. Luke is torn, he wants to be a Jedi but doesn’t know where to begin. The only Jedi he’s known is dead. Plus he comes face to face with Vader the man he believes is responsible for the death of his father. Also Vader has no idea who Luke is and at first could care less. I also liked the back and forth between Han and Leia. All the favorites are here Chewbacca, R2-D2, Threepio and Jabba. The art work was okay. The characters likeness was very similar to the actors. But I found Cassaday’sVader to be a little off sometimes. I did like his Jabba though. Next week I’ll be reviewing the first comic arc in the Darth Vader series.
